Happy Birthday to Jessy!

:: By Eric ::

It was indeed a happy day! It concludes the 26th year of her life and kicks-off the 27th. We believe many great things are going to take place this year!

This year round, I arranged for delivery of flowers & gifts to her workplace, it appeared to be a very pleasant surprise! :) The pics below would tell you much more:

I could tell that she really liked the pair of croc shoes (fuschia in color, the lighting condition above kinda' distorted the appearance of actual color). But for other people - I don't know, either they will fall in love with its funkiness or hate it outright.

We find its design really bold & interesting, I might get a pair for myself too. If you like'em too, check them out at http://www.crocsshoes.com.au.

For the evening, we dinned at Chilli's - atmosphere was great and the food was finger lickin' good! What could be better than smoked lamb shoulder & prawns, *slurrpp* hehe..

Well, that's all for this short blog, hope to be able to do better (with more $$) in the coming year. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JESSY!

Fun Fabulous Friday

During the day...

It was creative time again! This time we did solar system chart. Not an impressive craft work but just a simple one. The purpose is to educate children that there are nine planets and a sun. I shall explain the process of making it with the pictures I took.

First, you'll need to mix the white paint and
water into this kind of spray bottle.

Get the child to stand and spray the paint out instead of sitting or squatting.
So that the paint will be spreaded equally.

This is how it will look. It is a background of the galaxy.

While waiting for the 'galaxy' to dry, get the child to stick
the planet with glittering papers, which I cut into tiny squares in advance.
I got them to color some planets too.

Tadaa! Beautiful solar system charts done by my K1 students!

By the way, Eizlan was my assistant of the day! Thanks boy!

During the night...

Who can resist food? Definitely not us Mr & Mrs Eric! We had a wonderful Smokey-BBQ nite with our friends. They're also my colleagues, who are teachers as well. Every teacher contributed food that nite. We had Pahang asam laksa, porridge, chicken, fish, sotong balls, jelly and grape cordial drink. It was so delicious especially the porridge. Kak Liza, you're such a great cook! She is a great assistant teacher to me too. You rock!

While I was enjoying bbq-ing the chicken and sotong balls, suddenly I saw Alia (my boss & best friend), Eric and the rest coming along with a cake and started singing, "Happy Birthday" song to me! I was really surprised cause the BBQ nite actually part of it was a farewell party for Teacher Bashirah. It was a great moment seeing everyone sang the birthday song including the husbands that were present! You guys really got me! Thanks alot for celebrating my birthday in advance. The blueberry cake was yummy. My birthday falls on the 27th of September.
So will be expecting gifts from you. Just kidding! :)

My sister joined us too. She has not been home for quite sometime due to her work at Starbucks, Times Square. She stays with my brother and sis-in-law in KL. That's why! Isn't her hair cool? The kids called her, " Hantu rambut banyak color." It was hilarious! Cause they were running around and laughing looking at her hair. They've never seen such "unique" looking hair. Oh yeah, she bought us moon cakes too. Green tea-chocolate and tiramisu flavor. Yummy! Thanks Joanne...

This is Teacher Bashirah. She is 4 months pregnant now.
We gonna miss you!

My hubby and the rest of the 'hubbies' at work.
Thanks guys for the yummy BBQ chicken!

Kak Liza and her 'supermodel' toilet-pose while washing the dishes.

The kids had their own fun-time too.

Be practical

It was yesterday where I did practical life session with my students again. Yes, it is a subject that is being taught to the children in kindergartens. Let me share something about practical life with you :)

Practical life activities include a wide range of tasks from pushing in a chair to baking a cake. These activities address the child's basic desire to feel competent, to be independent, and to belong. In addition, the practical life activities help children develop a sense of order and sequence, help develop muscular coordination, hand/eye coordination, and provide an opportunity for concentrated purposeful work. The skills gained through work in the practical life area are essential for success in all other curriculum areas. The teacher carefully presents practical life activities to the children, paying attention to sequence, timing and rhythm.

What the children learned yesterday was to clean the toys. They're taught how to squeeze the excess water from the cloth and wipe the toys. As usual they had so much fun. Children love to help but sometimes mum and dad thinks it's troublesome cause they might need to re-do what their kids have done. Sometimes with all the hassle, we might bring out a better quality child or person. *Ponder*.

"What we have to consider is how we can present this action to the small child and at the same time disturb as little as possible the creative instinct." Quoted by Maria Montessori

Resignation..

I tendered my resignation from Commerce International Group, Actuarial Services Department 2 days ago. This is really after much prayer, thought, and consideration.

However, it didn't take long before the HR and the senior management realize it - they have decided to counter offer and see if I would stay, at a higher monthly $alary, of course. Will be meeting them in about an hours' time.

I am praying that things will move towards the direction that HE intends them to.

So it really does matter...

~ This episode took place last Friday ~

1800 hr - Getting back from work

It was jam-packed (and smell-packed as well, haha..) at KL Central station, my analytical instincts approximated a total of 1,200 at platform 6 (southbound). There was hardly enough space for people to stand properly, let alone finding any seats.

1825 hr - Train arrives

I battled my way in, just like the rest of them. This is perhaps the only way to make it into the train alive, else, the consequence would be extra 30-minute-wait-time until the next train arrives.

While on board train, I was standing just behind a group females whom to my knowledge, are categorized into the clan of Ah Lian's.

Let me define the Ah Lians before writing any further:

1. Have at least one bag fashioned after a furry animal complete with the head.
2. Hair not in their original colour.
3. Volume of voice is automatically five decibels higher than everyone else.

4. Have boyfriends who have enough amplifiers in his one car to power speakers for six cars.
5. Excessive use of the phrase "Es-kiu mee". (Although, to be fair, some members of the Regular group have been reported to use the phrase on a daily basis as well.)
6. Sees Taiwan as the place to be.
7. Has Astro hardwired to Wah Lai Toi.
8. Knows all the dim sum dishes by name.

One of them - the shortest one, had her bag (which has no zipper or security measure of any sort) face backwards, which is almost dead ahead of me, whithin an arm's reach. And she suddenly realized that her mobile phone has disappeared from the bag! (not quite surprising)

Ok, now imagine a triangular setup, with the Ah Lian at the pinnacle, me a the lower right, and a tan-skinned, tatooed, almost hip-hop-looking (but not quite there yet), each ear pierced with at least half a dozen earrings dude at the remaining corner. I was actually nearer to the Ah Lian.

The Ah Lian looked back, angry + blur it seemed, and immediately accused the dude of stealing her mobile phone! I was amazed at how quickly she was able to make up her mind who to accuse. The only difference (at a glance) between me and the accused was that I had nice office attire on (G2000 striped long sleeves, slacks, and Italian leather shoes - shinning! Very nice you know!) and he doesn't.

I thought to myself - so it really does matter how we dress up ;)

Driving this point to application in daily life - it does count into our credibility how we dress because people tend to judge on what they see (surface, skin-deep), although, at many times, the truth is deeper within.

I don't think it is quite possible to be enablers for Christ if - at first glance we have been reasonably disqualified from being a good person from the way we look. Agree? So, hope it made sense to you, dress well!

Wanna ride?

Last friday, the K2 students also had their creative part. They were taught by Teacher Bashirah how to make a hot-air balloon. Here are some of the pictures that will show you the process of making one. They were very engrossed with their craft work to be brought back home for their mummy and daddy to see. Don't you agree? Enjoy!

This is the end result of a very nice hot-air balloon.

Creative Vroommm...

Every Friday, my K1 kids got to express their creativeness during art lessons. They're creative small-people, just like their teacher :) I taught them how to make move-able cars.

First they got to paint the egg holder. Girls painted pink and boys painted yellow.

While waiting for the paint to dry, they were given instruction to draw the scenery of the road. The egg holder will be drawn with details and sticked it to the craft stick. Trust me, the kids can draw and express their drawings very well. I won't be surprise if they're the next junior Leornado Da Vinci :)

Lastly, for the car to be moved back and forth on the 'road', it has to have a split in the middle. Now, boys and girls start your engine! That's what I call creative!

Before I end, I want to show you a "creative" drawing. Remember the haunted pokok pinang that was found in Penang? Doesn't this look similar? Look at the tree. Weird but it's true.

B

Hyper Five

There are two sessions that the K1 (5 years-old) kids always look forward to - P.E (physical education) & Outdoor activity (water & sand play). At this very moment, I'm talking about P.E. The minute you tell them it's P.E time, they'll just rush out (like they never went out before), grab their shoes and start to run before you could say anything else!

We did some warm-ups such as stretching, going in and out of their friends like a snake and also we played "Traffic Light" because the kids learn about transportation this week. The game goes like this, there are 3 colored-cones. Red means stop, Yellow means slow and Green means go. Guess what, some kids said Yellow means ready to go! Oh mine! Just wondering where they learn that? Coming back to it, the rest have to be alert what they need to do when they see the colors of the cone. It was hilarious looking at the stop actions. Look at the pictures below.

After that, I got them to jump as high as they can. You can just see the excitement and joy in their faces. "Whee, I'm free." Conclusion is kids just love to be hyper all the time :)

More hyper & happy moments...
